Giving back to the community has always been one of our goals. When we first created Rapid Facility Services, we knew we wanted to be the kind of business that gives back.

Amidst our bustling schedule with clients, we haven’t forgotten that integrity is at the forefront of our ethos. That’s why we decided choosing a charity was a great way to give back.

And what better charity to choose than Franklin Hospice?

We are proud to support Franklin Hospice

Franklin Hospice is a remarkable organisation committed to providing exceptional palliative and specialised medical care to individuals with serious illnesses. At the core of their mission is the vision of enhancing the quality of life for patients and their families. It is an absolute privilege to support and offer our services, whether for grounds care, painting, path maintenance, building maintenance and more.

We are thrilled to have initiated a partnership with Franklin Hospice and have already completed our first job for them. The feedback from the Franklin Hospice team was overwhelmingly positive, which makes us feel proud to be able to contribute to their crucial work.

We commit one day every month to undertaking any necessary general repair projects to ensure that their premises are always running smoothly, aesthetically pleasing, and most importantly, an environment that offers solace to patients at a vulnerable time. This allows them to continue their hospice care with a greater degree of peace and comfort.

The history of Franklin Hospice

The history of Franklin Hospice in Pukekohe dates back to the early 1980s when the Franklin branch of the NZ Nurses Association recognised the challenges terminally ill patients and their families faced due to long distances to treatment centres.

A public meeting in 1983 led to the creation of a Steering Committee, paving the way for the establishment of Franklin Hospice in 1986 as a Trust, with a focus on supporting families in the community and providing patients with a better quality of life, even allowing them to remain in their own homes whenever possible.

As the Hospice grew, it required additional staff and funding. In 2008, a retail shop was opened, selling donated items to the public to raise funds. This led to a need for storage space, which the Franklin Women’s Club generously provided. The Hospice continued to expand, appointing its first grief and loss counsellor in 2010 and later moving to a new facility at 29 Hall Street in 2014, which was officially opened by the Prime Minister of New Zealand.

In 2015, the Hospice nursing team initiated a 24/7 telephone service to allow patients to contact a duty nurse anytime. The majority of the Hospice’s work has been made possible through the support of the community and donations, with additional funding provided by the government through Te Whatu Ora Counties Manukau.
