When we first sat down to brainstorm our new business venture, we had a vision of what kind of business we wanted to be. While honesty and integrity are at the forefront of our ethos, we also wanted to be the kind of business that gives back to the community. With this in mind, we collectively agreed to support Totara Hospice.
Choosing Totara Hospice as our main charity was easy.

It takes a special kind of person to be part of Totara Hospice and, for their dedication and kindness, it made sense to us to do something for them in return.

Who is Totara Hospice?
Totara Hospice is an organisation made up of multi-disciplinary professionals specialising in palliative care. Servicing South Auckland and South East Auckland, Totara Hospice provide palliative care to patients with a life-limiting illness.
Hospice focuses on ensuring that a person’s final days are experienced with comfort, dignity and best possible care.
Embracing all ages, ethnicities and religions, Totara Hospice give the same high standard of care to anyone in need. Combining a strong sense of compassion and respect with the utmost professionalism, Totara Hospice honours the lives of everyone who passes through their care.
Hospice needs your support
While hospice is partially funded by the government, this funding only makes up approximately 61% of their full running costs. In order to continue providing their services, Hospice needs to raise approximately $4 million every year.
Through community fundraising and events, Hospice raises money towards their funding shortfall. They will always need your help and we should all do what we can to ensure Hospice can keep doing what they’re doing.

We support Totara Hospice and all that they do for the community
Here at Rapid, we truly feel that Totara Hospice is taking care of our community in a very special way. They have a high level of empathy that nurtures people in their final stages of life, allowing them and their families to feel at peace with the situation.
As a gesture of our appreciation for Totara Hospice, we send one or two of our expert technicians to the Hospice site every month. During our visit, we perform maintenance on the building and amenities.
Our building maintenance services can be anything from preventative care to upgrade work. While onsite at Hospice, we have a good look around at what needs to be done. Often the Hospice team have a specific request which we will carry out for them then and there.
We look forward to our visits to Totara Hospice. The staff there are warm and friendly and it’s easy to see why they’re the perfect people to work in this field.
All work for Totara Hospice is done free of charge. After everything Hospice does for the community, it’s the least we can do for them.
Giving back to the community is a great way to show support to those who are doing the tough jobs that few people are capable of doing. We are so lucky to have the services provided by Totara Hospice and, while they don’t ask for much, it’s important we acknowledge their hard work anyway we can.
When we formed our company one morning over breakfast, one of the first conversations we had was about how we wanted to give back to the community. We wanted to be known for more than our services.
